"THE DELMARVA BASKETBALL ACADEMY"
We prepare our kids to be good citizens, quality students, and better basketball players ... in that order.

DELMARVA BASKETBALL ACADEMY 2012
"Senior Student-Athletes"
In the past 5 years, we've worked with over 300 area student-athletes to help them become better ambassadors for Delmarva, and also experience the thrill of teamwork and being a part of a winning organization.
This year we have an added mission! To get as many of our student-athletes into college. And we would like to partner with you to help our Delmarva-area kids
We are putting together a team of 12 high school seniors from Wicomico and Worcester counties. From April through June, this team will play in 5 tournaments that are attended by college coaches.
This year we are asking for donations of $100, $150, $200 or $250 to help with travel costs and tournament fees.
As a long-time member of the Delmarva community, you can support a non-profit youth basketball program that offers opportunity to area boys and girls, instills pride in them, and represents our region with class.
We hope that you will play a part in "helping us, help these kids" reach their goals.
Feel free to call about our 2012 team. I'm always available to answer any questions at 410-603-2617.
*Donations can be made online (see sponsors page), or you can send a donation made out to: Paul Butler, P.O. Box 438, Fruitland, MD 21826.

(2nd Place Cardinals Classic)
Congrats to the 11th Grade Laker Boys and 11th Grade Lady Lakers who both surprised a few folks by making it to the championship games, and both teams had a chance to win in the final moments of their respective game.
The 11th Grade Boys team played with just 7 players most of the weekend and got outstanding performances from Josh Strand, Paul Butler, and Quinn Timmoms. The Laker boys were 3-0 going into the title game, and had the lead in the championship game vs the Washington High Jaguars with until a Jaguar three point play with just 11 seconds left in the game. Great effort from our undermanned Lakers, though.

FINAL LAKERS TOURNAMENT OF Summer 2010 July 17 (@ Bowie, MD)
Congrats to the 16U Gold (Chris, Paul, Devonta, Kyle, Josh, Leon, Brandon, Damonte, Andre, Myles, and Jeremy) for a really solid day of basketball on Saturday July 17.
Making the trip across the Bay to play in the Bowie Invitational, the Delmarva Lakers had everyone asking, "where are you all from?!!!"
Our only loss of the day came "outside" our bracket when we lost to the 17U team Chesapeke Bay Breakers. The best win of the day was in our final game as we beat the DC Elite with as much as a 24 pt lead in the second half , we ended up winning by 12.
Turning point was when we went big to our biggest lineup of the season. Jeremy Greene 6'5, Devonta Walker 6'4, and Damonte Dodd 6'6 on the front line.
The Lakers went on a 22-4 run to break open the game.
It was a total team effort! Josh, Paul, Kyle, Chris, Myles, Andre, Brandon, and Leon all contributed.
Thanks to all the parents and families that drove up to support us.
I want to say Thanks to the 16 Gold players for making this another successful tournament appearance in 2010. Thanks for working hard, hustling but most of all believing in our program. Luv U Lakers!!!
THANKS!
16 Gold finished the 2010 season with a record of 17-4, with two tournament titles for the summer!
Thanks,

DBA Alum Madison Warfel Making his mark!
(Summer 2010) - Former DBA Laker Madison Warfel was named to the NCCAA Div. II All-East Region second team this past season at Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, PA. The 6 foot sophomore guard averaged 13.4 ppg, and led the team in 3 pointers made.
Lancaster had a very successful season, advancing to the NCCAA Div. II national tournament in Springfield, Missouri. Madison, from Greenwood, Delaware and graduated from Greenwood Mennonite, is majoring in Sports Management.
This is a great testament to where hard work can get you. This also shows that not every player will make it to a D-I school, but there are plenty of colleges that players can continue their careers.
Just ask Coach Paul (Mary Washington, D-III) and Coach Ed (Virginia Wesleyan, D-III).

A SPECIAL LETTER FROM A FORMER DBA LAKER ... (June 2010)
Coach Paul,
I just wanted to thank you for creating the "Delmarva Lakers" AAU basketball program. I had an awesome time playing the past 2 years. You were one of the few coaches I've encountered that cared about us succeeding in our future as you did in learning the game of basketball. You stressed to us the importance of doing well in school so we can have opportunities in our future.
I wanted to update you on what my future holds for me. First off, I'm graduating HS as a straight A student and was captain of Broadwater's Varsity basketball squad. I leave in 14 days for the Air Force Reserve. I plan on going to University of Maryland - College Park or St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia after completing my training and my 6 moths of active service to the Air Force. Thanks again for everything you've done for the community. Good Luck this season.
God Bless,
Connor Cooney
DBA Response - THANKS A LOT, CONNOR! - Best of luck in the AFR, and we are so proud that you'll be attending college soon!

16U DBA GOLD wins Beach Bound Title

04/26/10 - The 16U Gold Team opened the "Beach Bound I" tourney in Ocean City by escaping with marathon 4-OT win over the Shore Shots in the oepning round. The Lakers would then go unbeaten the rest of the tournament to capture the championship trophy. It is their second tournament title of this young AAU Season.
14U Boys- The 14U team under Head Coach Ed Cowell pick up an impressive win at the tourney, and were competitive in both losses.
16U Black - Despite playing with a depleted roster, the 16U Black took every team's best punch and played hard at the Beach Bound tourney. Congrats to Coach Chuck Corbin and his team for never giving up.
17U Boys - The 17U Lakers learned a valuable lesson over the weekend. Play as a team, or you'll get embarrassed. The first two games didn't go well for our guys who looked as if they were all playing for themselves. After a stern talk from Coaches Wenke and Butler on playing unselfishly, and taking responsibility for their earlier poor play, the guys put on a good showing against Team Tri-County. They even took a 1 point lead with 5 minutes to go before the talented Tri County took over in the end. We hoped the guys can use this tournament as a springboard to bigger things.
Lady Lakers - The Delmarva Lady Lakers didn't pick up a win this weekend, but Coach Jay Trader is encouraged by the hard work and tough mental attitude of the ladies. With continued practice time and positive attitude, the Lady Lakers will continue to make some noise this AAU Season.
***Take a look at some pictures from our other teams this weekend and a couple of our guys who went to the Prom over the weekend.

DELMARVA LAKERS 16U WINS TITLE @ MD. Cardinals Classic - 4/11/2010
The 16U GOLD team ( Marc Agboton, Paul Butler, Chris Corbin, Kyle Dashiell, Devonte Walker, Myles Frazier , Brandon Rorie, Damonte Dodd, and Xzavier Pinder) all contributed in our 57 - 50 win over Indian River to claim the 16U Title with a 3 -1 tournament record.
After being down 19 - 7 in the first 10 minutes, and down 7 at the half, we were able to fight back in the second half, outscoring them 37 - 23 to take control of the game. Walker led all scorers with 18, Butler 11, Corbin and Agboton chipped in 9 points each. BUT let me be clear, it was a TEAM win overall. Everyone played their role; even those on the bench by shouting encouragement to their teammates. Congrats to 16 GOLD Boys team for the first title of 2010. (picture coming soon_

Congratulations to Lady Laker Blaire Bloxom who was featured in the Daily Times newspaper for trying to raise money to help kids in India.

5/16/09 - Nice showing for 16U and 17U Lakers in the "Delmarva Jam". Coach Jimmy Price did a masterful job pulling double duty in coaching the 16 and 17U's to some nice wins.
16U Laker Boys - Knocked off a very good Pro Cut Jaguars (Washington High) in the opening round. A good showing this weekend under some tough competition. Those Delaware Ignitors(Polytech, C. Rodney, and Dover players) are no joke.
17U Boys - Great tournament. You guys made it to the semifinals, losing to eventual runnerup Md. Supreme, and showed that the DBA Lakers can play.

Lady Lakers place 2nd in "Delmarva Classic", 15U Boys show well again

04/20/09 - Salisbury, Maryland
The Delmarva "Lady Lakers" had a good showing in our Delmarva Classic on April 18th. The Ladies defeated the Fairfax Tarheels to advance to the title game where they lost in a good game to the highly touted Wolpack. Pictured are (Front row) - Madison Bloxom(Broadwater), Genesis Manuel(Bennett), Page Rew(Broadwater), Blaire Bloxom(Broadwater) and Christoria Wise(Bennett). (Standing) - Donyae Miles(Queen Anne's).
Our "15U" Laker Boys team had another solid showing for the second tournament in a row. Coming off a runnerup finish in the Cardinal Classic, the 15U squad played to a 2 - 1 record. Unfortunately, we lost in a rules tie breaker for the right to advance to the Championship game. The boys were really impressive including a 16 point win over previously unbeaten Maryland Cardinals. Marc, Paul and Myles had monster games, but our guards played their best all year. Thanks to Maurice, Chris, Leon, Robert , Kyle and Jean. Also, chipping in solid performances, Joe and Doug hitting the boards hard, and our newest teammate, Herman Brown with his guard play.
